Can't upgrade from IE5-CATCH 22

I was required to install a Service Pack 4 for a Win2k machine which
had IE 5. After doing so it caused IE 5 not to work (documented
problem on Windows website).

Microsoft provides a fix but before installing it, it is required you
upgrade to IE 6, which I obviously can't do with IE 5 broken.

I tried to find somewhere to download IE6 on another computer. But all
the upgrade downloads to IE6 I am able to find assume you are doing it
on a working IE5 machine. I ordered the IE6 diskette but am afraid its
just going to be the 450k base install program too that then invokes
the Internet to complete the upgrade.

I also tried finding the Microsoft Catalog online used by
Administrators hoping I could download a complete IE6, copy it, and
carry it over to the broken computer. But it requires Administrator
access which I don't have.

Can anyone tell me where to get a standalone complete basic IE6 which
doesn't require internet access ? Can I use a free AOL disk and then
cancel the account or does it have IE6 on it by itself ?

What a bunch of catch 22s !!!!! Thanks for any help.

Thanks to all of you for taking the time. I appreciate it very much,
after having wasted a whole afternoon on this. I WISH there had been a
warning before upgrading to Win2K SP4 to FIRST upgrade to IE 6...
Again, thanks (and for being so prompt). God Bless the Internet....
