Can't Uninstall Mouse

Device Manager Shows a problem with a MS PS/2 mouse -- not surprising
because I don't have a MS mouse connected. I would like to uninstall
this device, but when I right-click and select "uninstall" and go
through the subsequent reboot, the device re-appears. Any suggestions
for how to remove the MS Mouse driver from Device Manager?

(I want to uninstall the driver because I believe it is causing time out
warnings to appear in Event Manager -- when it can't find the actual
mouse hardware)

The system installs the default mouse drivers, but it appears, in your case,
they are corrupted. Why don't you install the current drivers for your
mouse, and be done with it?

Good question. Here's the answer:

I have a Logitech optical mouse, with the correct drivers. It works
fine. I don't have a MS mouse, but the system insists on installing the
drivers for one anyway. As a result, Device Manager shows a splash
(warning), complaining that "This device is not present, is not working
properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24)" Of
course it's not present. If it was just a splash in the DM, I'd let it
go. Anyway, XP conveniently hides this device, so you don't even see
the splash when you open DM unless you select "Show Hidden Devices."

On the other hand, it appears that MS wrote this device driver so poorly
that periodically the Plug and Play Manager looks for a mouse, can't
find it, and writes a bunch of warnings to the Event Log. At least I
_think_ that's what's generating those Event Log warnings. Again, I
would ignore the Event Log warnings if I was certain they were generated
by the MS Mouse driver. But I can't uninstall the driver to see if the
Event Log warnings stop.
