Can't synchronize over VPN

I was previously able to synchronize Outlook with my work Exchange
Server over a VPN connection. The VPN connection itself is still
working on my laptop, and I am able to use it to synchronize my
desktop computer with work, but attempting to synchronize my laptop's
Outlook gives "Your Microsoft Exchange Sever is unavailable..."

I've tried uninstalling and re-installing office without success. Is
there a way to return all Outlook settings to their defaults? I'm
about to reinstall Windows to get this important function back, so any
suggestions would be appreciated.

Can you succesfully ping the server by name and IP address?
Also try adding the IP-address and hostname to your HOSTS-file. This could
also increase your respondstime of the server (which is always a nice extra)

particualar hotel wired broadband.

In addition to a host file modification, I would also try:
1. ipconfig /flushdns
2. nbtstat -R

Thomas, could you explain what these are and how to do them? I can connect to VPN and ping the server but Outlook 2003 cannot synchronise or recognise server. I've added server & IP address to host file but don't know what else to try

thanks

Add the full FQDN name and single server name to the host file - make
sure that the host file is being used during the VPN.

How do I ensure the host file is being used during the VPN

Just make sure the hosts (not host) file of your design is properly
distributed to the client computers.
