Cant Stay Connected

I'm having a strange yet simple problem with my Sprint Service DSL. I'll be
putting this thread in three different strings: Netopia, Sprint, and Windows
XP

My DSL will connect me to the internet for a span of no more than 20 minutes
at a time. Afterwards it disconnects automatically, or loses its connection.
If I try to repair the connection it says that it failed to obtain an IP
address. It is my impression that it obtains random IP address from my
provider each time it connects, I'm not sure.

My DSL is connected through a USB port (unfortunately) and has just been
recently installed. I've tried calling customer service but they said that
as long as I have a DSL Sync (The actual router never disconnects, only
disconnects in my "local area connection" display) their part of the deal is
done, its a windows XP problem.

I have a feeling that this might be a problem with my Windows XP settings
but I cant seem to find where this problem is. I dont understand how it'll
work for 20 minutes at a time and then disconnect. It could be a problem
with internet explorer, but even then... I dont know where to start.

Any help will be much appreciated and I am willing to add any information
needed.
Thanks,
Subsist

Connecting a computer to a WAN router through a USB connection
is highly unusual. Please explain. My first recommendation would
be to connect the computer to the router by means of an Ethernet
cable.
