Cant shut down.

Hi

If anyone knows a solution to this I would appreciate it.
My computer cant shut down.
When I click the shut down button the computer just restarts.
Some times it shuts down for a few minutes but then boots up by itsself.
The on-off button just restarts the system. ie when you press it the
computer starts to shut down but then boots up again straight away.

The system didnt used to do this untill I reformatted it and reinstalled
windows 2000.

All the windows update stuff is up-to-date...

The only way to turn this off it to pull the power lead out the back and
plug it back in, it then stays off.
For obvious reasons I dont like doing that...

The system is an Athlon 1700, 256mb,
The motherboard is MSI KT3 Ultra series, VIA chipset

Whats going on?

could it be an NIC with wake up on LAN setting to on?
think i had a problem with a machine like that a couple of
years ago, took a while to figure it out.
