i can't send or reveive mail on windows for the past 3 days i get an error
message something about my server pop3 cannot be found. Does anybody know
what to do?

Right-click on your error message, copy, then paste it into a reply here.
We can't do much troubleshooting without the complete error message.

Gary, I am suffering the same problem ref incoming e-mail problem. the error
message I keep getting is:
Account: 't and j', Server: 'pop3.blueyonder.co.uk', Protocol: POP3, Server
Response: '-ERR Protocol error.', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error:
0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC91

I have tried to rest my user name and password , I even have a copy of my
settings and have removed the account details and imported the copy but
nothing seems to work. I am running Norton 360 which maybe the cause, any
suggestions would be v helpful.

Gary -

I have the same issue. Here is my error:

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'E-mail', Server:
'pop.charter.net', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error:
10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

TLB, check this setting:
Go to Tools, Accounts, select that mail account, Properties, Servers.
Uncheck the box for "Log on using Secure Password Authentication."

If that was already unchecked, the only remaining culprit is your Norton
Antivirus. Norton security products are among the top three troublemakers
for Windows Mail. Symptoms often don't surface until several months have
gone by, or until an update occurs.
First, be sure to disable its email scanning, for the reason explained here:
http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tutorials/email-scanning/index.htm

Disabling the Norton program is often insufficient. Do a trial uninstall,
followed by using their debris removal tool:
http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

Instead of uninstalling your antivirus, another option is to upgrade to
Windows Live Mail, which is more resistant to the adverse effects of overly
intrusive antivirus products: http://download.live.com/wlmail

Aaron, your settings (as evidenced in the error message) are fine.
That symptom can be caused by interference from an antivirus
program. Which antivirus are you running?
As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus should be turned off,
although that may not be sufficient to eliminate all bad effects.
In a worst case scenario, your antivirus may need to be uninstalled.

Email scanning in any antivirus should be disabled, for reasons
explained here:
http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tutorials/email-scanning/index.htm

If no improvement after disabling email scanning, consider upgrading
to Windows Live Mail, because it is less prone to suffering bad effects
from overly intrusive antivirus programs:
