Can't Send Emails

When I try to send an email, the body of the email is grey with a red X in
the top left corner. It does not allow me to type anything or send the email.
Please help.

What version of Outlook? What account type? Are you using Word as the
editor?
 
I am using Outlook Exchange Web Access 2003 with word as the editor. I
actually got the X off and can now type but everytime I attempt to send an
email Internet Explorer completely shuts down.

You're not using Word as the editor with Outlook Web Access. There are some
patches available for Exchange that addresses the problem you've been
seeing. Tell your Exchange admin what the problem is and s/he should be
able to update Exchange. OWA is not Outlook.
