Can't Send Email Without Getting "Message Character Set Conflict"

L

When i try to send a message or save a draft email, I get the above named box.
Three options are available to me:
1. Send as Unicode
2. Send as is (I usually do this)
3. Cancel

Why am I getting this message, and how do I get rid of it?
All help appreciated.

This usually happens when you have included a character that is
not in the normal US-ASCII character set. Are you using special
foreign language characters?

If the problem continues, go to Tools, Options, Send, International Settings,
what is your Default Encoding?

The default encoding box is empty. There is a check mark in the "when
replying.....box.

I am sending messages in English.

There is nothing to "select" in Default Encoding and the system won't allow
me to type anything into that space.

You can't type in that box, but there should be a drop-down arrow
allowing selection of a large variety of encodings.
If yours doesn't have that, the only further suggestion I have is to
upgrade to Windows Live Mail:
