I'm getting this error message when trying to send email. What does this
mean and how do I fix it?

The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'I got elfed', Account:
'Windows Mail', Server: 'smtp.comcast.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 587,
Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

I too, am getting the same message with all three mailboxes. This is on my
desktop running with Vista and started mid-day on the 16th. I also have a
laptop running XP and mail is coming through that computer just fine. I have
rekeyed all my server info but the results haven't changed.

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'pop.chrislands.com',
Server: 'pop.chrislands.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No,
Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Can anyone help?

You do not have the same message, as should be obvious. Please start your
own thread.

Windows Mail often misbehaves when interfered with by
some antivirus programs. Windows Mail is not compatible with
most McAfee and Norton security programs. Those will need to
be uninstalled, not just disabled.

After uninstalling your non-compatible antivirus, download
and install a more compatible antivirus like the free Avast:
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

Even compatible antivirus programs will need to have their
email scanning option turned off. For more on this topic see
