Can't send e-mail away from home

Guest

I use Outlook 2003 and Windows XP Home Edition with SP2. In the past I have
not had any trouble, but in the past week, I have not been able to send
e-mail when I am away from home. I can still receive with no problem, but I
get a System Administrator Undeliverable message immediately when I try to
send.

At home, I am on a wireless network connecting to my ISP by cable modem. I
have had this problem in the past week while accessing my parents' home
wireless network and today while accessing a hotel wired network.

The text of the message I am getting is as follows:

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

Subject: xxx
Sent: 1/20/2005 9:41 PM

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

xxx on 1/20/2005 9:41 PM
None of your e-mail accounts could send to this recipient.

I'm sorry, but that article did not address my issue. It had to do with
Windows 95 and 98 and sending e-mail to a Compuserve server (which I have not
tried) in RTF format.

I assume that you have SP-1 of Outlook 2003. You probably need to
authenticate to your outgoing mail server, which you can set up on the
"Outgoing server" tab of your account.

I got the answer to the problem. Certain networks will not allow you to
connect to your home outgoing mail server for security reasons. But if you
change your account settings to use the local network's outgoing mail server,
then you can send out mail with no problem. I tried this and it worked.
Thanks for your assistance.

This was not a connection problem, because you would have received an error
message telling you that Outlook couldn't connect rather than the
non-delivery report you got. It's almost certainly an authentication issue
that we could figure out, but if you're happy with the solution you've got,
go with it...

I'm experiencing the same problem -- Outlook 2003; functions fine at home;
sending won't work when I'm accessing the Internet elsewhere.

I am posting the log file. (I've excerpted the portion of the file dealing
with my Yahoo account and substituted "mylogin" for my Yahoo login name. I'm
also having the same problem with other accounts.)

If you need the full log file to help me, let me know, though I'd prefer to
redact my login names.

There is no SMTP connection exchange of protocols in the log you posted.
Can you ping the smtp.mail.yahoo.com server? Can you telnet to its port 25?
