Can't send attachment via Windows Messenger

L

Larc

When I try to send an attachment with Windows Messenger, I get the following
message:

"Sending of 'DG.jpg' to Joe Doe has failed."

This message appears on the receiving computer:

"This file could not be sent because the connection is blocked. A firewall
running on your computer or on the network may be the cause. Contact your
network administrator or Internet service provider."

Both computers are running WinXP Home with SP2 installed. The XP firewall is
turned OFF on both! Although each computer is attached to a router, files were
being sent freely with the same setup prior to SP2. In fact, SP2 is the only
change on either computer.

I've tried sending files between two computers on my own network and get the
same messages.

Anybody have any ideas?

TIA!

Larc

Try forwarding TCP ports 6891-6900 for message transfers
If voice doesn't work, forward TCP port 6901

Hi Alan,

Firstly, "forwarding ports" in a NAT device won't make either of these functions work, UPnP
is required.

Secondly, voice has not used port 6901 TCP for communication since MSN Messenger 3!

I deleted Windows Messenger and installed MSN Messenger 6.2. Sending and
receiving files working flawlessly once more. :)
