Can't see on any monitor now

A

Andy

Hopefully this is the right place to post a question like this. My apologies
if it's not.

My laptop video went and so I plugged in an external monitor. I wanted it
to come up on the external monitor automatically upon bootup (instead of
FN-F8 'ing it over). I went into Display Properties Settings and chose the
option Extend my Windows Desktop onto this monitor and applied it.

Now I think it's displaying Monitor 1 from the laptop which I can't see and
the external monitor is blank (presumably monitor 2).

Can someone

a) rescue me so I can see from my external monitor again? I've tried to
"guess" where the option is on the blown laptop display with no success

b) tell me if it's possible to default to have an external monitor come up
(it's plugged into the laptop)

Thanks

Try to Fn-F8 again and wait for at least 5 seconds. If it doesn't work the
first time after 5 seconds or so press combination again and wait. Hopefully
the computer will mirror the data from the internal video onto the external
monitor and override the extend command as one is basically hardware based
(the Fn+) and the other is Windows based (extend.)

Some machines, when the external monitor is hooked up and turned on when the
laptop is turned on it automatically mirrors the internal to external
display. Other machines don't recognize the external monitor and you have to
tell it to look (Fn+.) Don't know what your machine is as you didn't tell
us.

Let us know if any of this works.
