Can't see inbox mail messages

Have been working with Outlook on this laptop and was
working. Started it up recently and when I go to the
Inbox, it indicated I have (8) messages in the shortcut
bar but where the messages are listed, there are no
messages. I looked for an alternate Inbox but do not see
one. Any ideas as to what is happening?

Do you have any views set on the in-box, such as unread
messages or have you sorted by Icon?

Let me check this out, I suspect not but maybe the view is
set for only read messages. The PC is not with me right
now, will try later. Thank you
