Can't see devices?

When I connect my mobile phone (via USB) it doesn't appear in the My Computer
explorer even though the icon in the taskbar shows it's connected. The New
Hardware Wizard pops up everytime asking for the installation CD, so I put it
in and eventually it says everything's installed.

However, still nothing shows in My Computer. I can find the phone in the
device manager - it shows the F: and G: drives for my phone and memory card
respectively. I can manage files and sync music etc, either thru programs or
dragging and dropping and can eject thru the Remove Hardware icon.

There's obviously some (probably very simple) reason for this problem - can
anyone offer any ideas?

Thanx...

You may well find the correct way to install the phone is by installing the
cd, before connecting the phone. Its often that way with usb devices.

Thanks for the quick reply, and I have actually installed the software now.
Didn't really want to do it before because these things always come with lots
of bundled stuff that I don't want on my system, but have bitten the bullet
now.

However, there is still nothing in My Computer. There's a phone icon in the
taskbar and connecting and syncing should be straightforward but I'm still
bothered that drives F: and G: are not showing up in Explorer.

I cleaned out some unwanted program files recently, could this be related?
Maybe a folder with some strange name that contains icons or something?
Doesn't sound terribly likely but I'm now just clutching at straws :-)
