Can't see ccess Point...... help....

I have one way satellite internet connection using PCI receiver card
in tower # 1. I have NIC ethernet card in Tower # 1 connected to a
D-Link AP-1000 wireless access point.

Laptop has a pcmcia wireless card. All is 802.11b

I can share files and internet connection with laptop.

Problem is slow transfer rate, about 400K.

When I try to see the access point with the access point utility
software, I cannot see it. The utility for the card in the notebook
sees it.

Can anyone give me an idea why it works, but I can't see it to change
the config on the access point? Thanks

I'm no expert, but a couple things come to mind.

When I was setting up a wireless lan using access points, I found that I had
to have the access point and the router be the same brand. Netgear to
Netgear worked, Netgear to D-Link did not. D-Link tech support informed me
that their hardware, although supposedly widely compatible with other mfrs,
would not work with Netgear. That may be a problem more with 802.11g than
with 802.11b.

Next, did you enter in the correct MAC address in the AP configuration? or
are you saying that you can't log into the AP to configure it. You probably
have to set your computer to use a static IP address in the same range and
subnet mask as the manufacturer provided for your AP.

Last thing is that you should not have the software for Windows and the
software that comes with your wireless adapter both running and trying to
provide connectivity. They'll conflict with each other. Choose one and
disable the other.

Good luck.
