My Internet connection froze so I ran a spyware check to ensure that my PC
wasn't infected. And my PC reset in the middle of the check (having
identified 72 serious threats). I tried again. My PC reset again. I tried a
different spyware program - same thing. So now I can't repair these
problems.

My PC is running perfectly apart from me knowing that I have these spyware
problems.

Any ideas?

Bobby

Restart your computer in "Safe Mode" and run the tests from there.

To get into "Safe Mode" you have to tap the F8 key repeatedly (about 1 time
per second) during the boot process. This will bring you to a selection
screen. Choose safe mode. If you have a keyboard with an F-Lock key, you
will likely have to press that key first to enable the F8 key to work.

What do you mean "reset"? Did it "Reboot"?, restart Windows?, restart the
Spyware Program?
Meanwhile try:
Control Panel>Display>Screensaver Tab: Set Screensaver to "None"; same
tab>Power button: Monitor Off,Harddisk Off, & Standby to "Never". [I know
these will stop a Defragmentation.]
You can hasten spyware search some by first going to Control Panel>
Internet Options> Delete Cookies (button)> Ok; Delete Files (button)>check
Offline Content box> Ok.
Then run your Spyware. If satisfied, then set your Display>ScrnSvr & Power
Opts back if you like.
(OR, You may need to Defrag, while ScrnSvr & PwrOpts are still Off.)

Tried booting in safe mode. No difference - BDOS and reset when I run my
antispyware software (AdAware and SpySweeper).

What computer manufacturer and model?

Do you have a boot disk?

Next I suggest you Disable automatic restart on system failure. This
should
help by allowing time to write down the STOP code properly. Right click
on the My Computer icon on the Desktop and select Properties, Advanced,
StartUp and Recovery, System Failure and uncheck box before
Automatically Restart.

Enable automatic restart on system failure after you have captured /
copied and pasted the message in a further post here.

There will also be Error Reports in Event Viewer. Please post copies.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools,
Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information
regarding Event ID, Source and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Double click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. This will paste the info from the Event Viewer Error Report
complete with links into the message. Make sure this is the first paste
after
exiting from Event Viewer.
