Can't reveal (unhide) computer or its shares on home workgroup LAN

I've added a new Presario/Sempron running XP Home SP 2 to my home LAN.
Unlike every other computer I've added, this one is hidden to other computers
on the LAN and even to itself when looking at the Network Neighborhood. I
can access it by running //ComputerName but when I walk up the folders in
the Explorer window that opens and properly shows the shared folder, when
I get to the workgroup I can't see the folder up from which I just came.

Sharing is set to allow others to modify files. Windows Firewall allows
file sharing. There is no $ in any name, and to be sure I renamed the
computer, and renamed the workgroup on all the computers on the LAN.
I've run "net config server /hidden:no" and haven't seen anything funky
in the registry.

I have C:\ (root) shared, also a folder on C and also another drive that
corresponds to a media reader slot, but none of them, nor the computer, show
up.

How can I unhide the computer?

Thank you.

No errors.

I get
Shared resources at \\HOSTNAME

Sharename Type Comment
---------------------------------------------------------
SharedFolder Disk
CD-in-drive (D) Disk
Diskname (C) Disk
MemStick Disk
SharedFolder Disk
Printer Print Quicken PDF Printer
Printer2 Print Microsoft Office Document Image Writer
SharedDocs Disk
The command was completed successfully.

Same behavior running that from the Win98 in the Workgroup or on itself.
The only thing missing is the hard printer I've just installed on the
problematic XP, but it might not have sharing turned on.

I rebooted in Safe Mode and got to a Security Tab and allowed everything.
Now on the other computer in Windows Explorer I can see Network
Neighborhood\Entire Network\Workgroup\Hostname\Shares in the left folder
pane, but in the right pane under Workgroup I see only the Win98 and the
other, non-problematic WinXP host. I can navigate to the problematic XP
through that left pane or through typing its UNC in the Explorer address bar,
but if I go Up I get to the workgroup where the problematic computer is not
visible.
