Can't Restore System State on Member Server??

Hi All,

We've run into a problem over here that is stumping us. We have been smart
enough to keep regular copies of our system backups including a System State
backup that runs nightly. However, after realizing some rather funky issues
with our Member server, we decided to try a recent System State restore.
But it won't execute....

We have booted the Member Server to Safe mode, it runs ntbackup, and
successfully catalogs the System State Backup file. We also make sure to
set the replace options for restore to replace all files, and then tell it
to run the restore interactively. The system pauses for a moment (with the
characteristic hourglass mouse pointer), and then return to the restore
screen with the original restore selections cleared. No dialog box appears
indicating anything is restored, and a review of the backup log shows NO
activity after the file is catloged. Nothing even indicating that a restore
operation is being started.

We did try to restore the backup file to an alternate location, which
appears to work fine, but I have no idea how to use that information to
restore the system.

Any ideas and peer responses will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance....

I figured out my own problem for those of you who are interested....

We implement Group Policies at my company, and we had defined some
restricted groups.... One of these groups was the Backup Operators group...

We mistakenly forgot to include the local administrator of each system in
that group, so as a result, they were unable to restore files and presumably
many registry keys.

Once the local administrator was added back into the Backup Operators group,
we were able to restore the system state again.
