Can't Remove Shadow Boxes

I added a shadow box around a range of cells. I now need
to remove the shadow but the "No Shadow" feature is not
highlighted in the shadow features box. The shadow
settings tool is also unavailable when I select this
feature. I have removed all worksheet and cell protection
but still cannot remove the shadow. However, if a shadow
is added to a range of cells and you immediately (without
leaving the cell range) go back into the shadow feature
box, the "No Shadow" button is available and will remove
the newly added shadow. Any existing shadows will not be
removed.

I've had this. The way I got round it (which I don't suppose is the best
way) was to right click the shadow and use 'Cut', then clear the clipboard,
