Can't remove a program

Hi,

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop running XP HE SP1.

A while ago, I downloaded and ran an online security check, plus online
virus check, from Symantec's website. I had to install a couple of programs
from the site to facilitate this.

Later, whilst cleaning up the hard drive, I removed the programs under
'add/remove programs'.

I decided to install Avast! free version as my anti virus program. When I
come to do this, a dialogue box opens and informs me that this cannot run
because of a conflict with Norton AV. The Symantec folder is still within my
program files, but when I try to use it's own uninstaller, I get a message
saying that 'this only applies to programs that are installed'.

How can I get rid of the Symantec files? Is there a way through the
registry? If so, I'd much appreciate step by step instructions on how to do
this, as I really don't want to have to format the hard drive.

Many thanks.
Pete

Tried going to the Symantec web site and searching for a solution?

Specifically look for RNAV2003 utility. It may not sound exactly like your
issue, but it should clear up your problem.
