Can't record AVI files

Am downloading videos from Kazaa as AVI files. DVD writer
won't take them - wants MPEG files. Help please!
 
What software are you using...? Use data mode and drag and drop if using
Nero.

You will need to use data mode to record AVI files to a DVD, and your
set-top DVD player won't be able to read the AVI files...
