can't read protected material

I live in Canada and I've been recording WWE's Monday Night RAW on TSN and
WWE's SMACKDOWN on The Score from about a year now.

I tryed watching the show that aired on august 7th of 2006 but it says for
the first time that it is protected from copy and that I can't read that on
THIS COMPUTER. Is it a new signal or is it because I installed every
updates? It worked fine until the last update I installed (KB919803).

I uninstalled it but will it work or will I have to use back my VCR like in
the '90? Great work Bill ! You make our lives so easier...

This help?

"This update rollup contains updates to Media Center programs that may
have been previously configured as "approved" or "allowed" by a
third-party firewall. If you use a third-party firewall, you may have
to manually update your firewall to let the new versions of these
programs access the ports. If you do not perform these firewall
updates, you may experience failures when you try to connect the Media
Center Extender to the Media Center computer."

It's not beyond MS to do this, Vista will be a DRM nightmare.

I use windows firewall. When I program these shows, I start the recordings
1 minute before the show and that single minute is not protected. I can
watch it without any problems. It's just ads though...

You are fortunate that you live in Canada. The US cable companies are
rapidly implementing the "brodcast flag" copy protection scheme. The scheme
prevents recording of any digital channel via digital means orther than with
a cable company supplied "set top box" with a built in hard drive. Even
those channels coded "copy once" are affected, since broadcast flag
compatable equipment is not generally available in the US.
Even most of the digital TVs currently on the market are not compatable,
forcing the users to watch the digital channels by using analog outputs of
the "set top box" instead of the digital outputs.

The last Update I did with media center is (KB989103) on July 31. I recorded
SMACKDOWN on The Score august 3rd and it worked fine. The I recorded RAW on
TSN august 7 and it was copy protected. Since both these shows are from the
same company wich is WWE, is it possible that the channel is responsible for
adding protection flags?

Yesterday, I uninstalled update (KB989103) and recorded RAW (strangely, this
show moved to The Score too so now they have both shows.) and everything is
back to normal. Both now I don't know wich between the update and TSN was to
blame.

On The Score, there is this stripe at the bottom of the screen that shows
current sports results, just like RSS feeds. Is it possible that this
stripe, which is somehow live information, could interfere with a
pre-recorded show playing in the background thus preventing the protected
flag to activate?

Do you believe the first company to build a PVR that's WILL NOT recongnise
these flags will make a lot of money?
