Can't prevent "Folders" pane from appearing by default

A

Acme

Somehow/somewhere/sometime I must have hit a button or switch to cause the
Folder pane to appear by default whenever I open a folder. I have hunted
high and low and am now admitting defeat. Does anyone know how to make this
pane stop appearing everytime I open a window? It even reappears if I close
it and then click to open a subfolder under the one I'm currently viewing.

If you don't know the Folder pane I'm talking about, open a folder and then
check the box next to "View" -- "Explorer Bar" -- "Folders" to see what it
looks like.

Any ideas? I feel like I've tried all the obvious stuff, but I'm open to
anything.

TIA...

If this fails, "folder" registry fix may be required.

Ramesh,

Thanks for your replies. The regsvr32 /i shell32 didn't change it. What's
the folder reg hack? I've tried a number of other reg fixes and haven't been
successful yet. I'm about to rebuild the thing but that seems a silly waste
of time just because this one problem annoys me.

If this fails, "folder" registry fix may be required.

Hi,

Right-click a folder and see the options (which is set a default). Select
"Open" to open a folder without explorer bars. Select "explorer" to open
with folder bar in the left.

Download the folder asso. fix from here:
