hi,

a consultant has a belkin 4 port modem router at home to share an adsl line.
both machines 2000 and XP have net access but cant ping each other.

xp desktop
192.168.2.50
255.255.255.0
gw 192.168.2.1
wins 192.168.2.1
dns 192.168.2.1
net bios enabled
workgroup home
cat5 rg45 to belkin
fixed ips

2000 laptop
192.168.2.51
255.255.255.0
gw 192.168.2.1
wins 192.168.2.1
dns 192.168.2.1
net bios enabled
workgroup home
cat5 rg45 to belkin
fixed ips

Belkin
Modem/Router/Gateway
Model: FSD5231-4
192.168.2.1
dhcp enabled

1. XP + 2000 machine has net access + can browse any site.
2. XP + 2000 CAN ping 192.168.2.1 ok (i.e the gateway).
3. 2000 CANNOT ping XP and vice versa.
4. they CANNOT see each other in nw neighbourhood.

I can only assume it must be the belkin router that is stopping communiction
between the XP and 2000 machine ?

Just wondering if anyone has any idea how to further tackle this problem ?

Thanks for your time
Scott.

Have you turn off the XP builtin firewall? Sometimes it causes the behavior
