Can't open .pst files

I archived my e-mails, contacts etc on Outlook 2003. When I went to open
them the message I get is: "you are trying to open office data file.pst. To
open this file, windows needs to know what program created it". I have tried
everything and can't open my files. Help?
 
You can't double-click a PST to open it. In Outlook, go to the File menu >
Open > Outlook Data File to open the PST
 
I realize this, but no matter what I do is get the same message. "you are
trying to open office data file.pst.
How can I open them?
 
Outlook gives that message when you try to open the PST? I've never seen
Outlook do that after using the File menu > Open > Outlook Data file
command.
