Hi all,

I am running Outlook version 11.0.8206.0

I was reading an email from a very trusted sender when all of a sudden ..
boom!

The 1st time I tried to reopen Outlook I got this dreadful message "Cannot
start Microsoft Outlook. Unable to open the Outlook window. The set folders
could not be opened. The server is not available. Contact your administrator
if this conditions persists"

Great because I am the administrator.

So I rebooted the pc

My 2nd attempt to open Outlook I got " Cannot start Microsoft Outlook.
Unable to open the Outlook window."

Then I came to this site. I've read many similar issues and the responses to
them.

I got as far as locating my .pst files but when I try to open it I get "
Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. The command argument is not valid.
Verify the switch you are using"

Outlook is not even an option on the "Open With List" when I try to open it.
The closest I could come was outlook.exe that is when I received the
"argument" error message.

Please help, this is my workplace pc.

Desperately,

Cmennis

You don't mention what your account type is (POP/SMTP, IMAP, Exchange
Server?).

The first thing I would try is to start Outlook in Safe Mode (Start ->
Run -> outlook /safe); make sure outlook is 100% closed before you try
that. Does it open successfully?

The next I would try is to run scanpst on your PST file. Make sure that
outlook is 100% closed, make a backup of your PST file, then run scanpst
(Start -> Programs -> Microsoft Office -> Microsoft Office Tools ->
Inbox Repair Tool).

Let us know how it goes.
