Can't Open Main Page in FrontPage

Sorry that I did not explain my self clearly in the other post. But I can't
open my Main HTM page in FrontPage with a large directory. Have to move my
main page to an almost bare directory with just a few htm pages and only
then will FrontPage open my main page so I can edit it. In the large
directory it just says Processing and hangs. If there was just away to stop
FrontPage from looking at the other pages. Another words put blinders on
FrontPage because the many other pages it apparently looks at is causing the
problem. Plus it takes forever to add a new link to my main page because it
scans for all my other HTM pages first. Can't all of this resource hogging
things it is doing be turned off? Sometimes simpler is better.

Does your 'main' page exist within a Web?
How are you trying to open it?

Yes it exist in a Web Site. I use WS FTP Pro to publish to my Web Site so I
don't need FrontPages added Web Publishing features that slow me down for
that. Just can not edit my large HTM Page anymore with FrontPage unless I
move this page to an almost empty directory. My Main Page has about one
thousand links to my other HTM Pages in the same directory. FrontPage seems
to be looking everyone of them up before opening my main page to edit. Which
I believe is causing the problems. It is like FrontPage has some limitation.
If some one could tell me how to have FrontPage stop scanning for the other
pages would in my option solve the problem. For basic editing maybe there is
another program I can use instead of FrontPage that just lets me edit and
add links without it doing all this checking which I don't need or want.
Just slows things down to a crawl.

Normally FP will handle all your hyperlinks for you. Thats probably what it's trying to do - which it can't if you use ftp.

How can I turn off all of this checking FrontPage does which is causing it
to freeze or slow down to a crawl. Just want FrontPage to function as a
simple page editor with the Server publishing which I don't need disabled.

IMO FrontPage is first a Web Management Program, and second a page editor.
There are webmasters that use Dreamweaver to edit pages, and FrontPage for
web management.

To speed up FrontPage, organise your files into folders containing fewer
files.
Also, regularly (with FP closed) clear the FrontPage temporary files, and
webcache files.

FP temporary files are normally at:
(FP2003)
%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\FrontPageTempDir
(Other versions)
%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temp\FrontPageTempDir

Webcache files are at: (all versions)
%APPDATA%\Microsoft\Web Server Extensions\Cache

Paste these addresses into the Windows Explorer address bar.
