Hi

OS = XP
Using Access 2000

When I try to send an email from Access i just get the message "Microsoft
Access Can't Open The Mail Session"...Does anyone know why this happens. I
have Outlook express 6. Is Access setup incorrectly or is it Outlook Express
or what?

Thanks for any help in advance...!

Hi Jason

When you installed Office did you install Outlook or not. I think you
need MS Outlook installed to use the email facility in Access even if
you don't use Outlook for your emails.

Outlook Express IS installed but was not installed with OFFICE it was
installed on the machine when purchased. Access, Word & Excel were installed
seperatley at a later date. None of them seem to be able to email from within
the application but my big problem is ACCESS?

Outlook and Outlook Express are two relatively unrelated products.

Outlook Express is installed with Internet Explorer. Outlook is part of
Office. Only Outlook can be automated from other applications: Outlook
Express doesn't expose itself for auomation.

As Doug says, Outlook Express is a different animal to Microsoft
Outlook for Windows.

It sounds as if you have not installed Microsoft Outlook so I suggest
you run your Office 2000 installation again, choose the Add or Remove
Features option and then select Microsoft Outlook for Windows to be
installed (as well as whatever else is already installed, i.e Word,
Excel, etc). I am assuming you don't also have a later version of
Office installed, if you do you will need to use the latest version
for Outlook.

When Microsoft Outlook is installed go back to Access and try the
e-mail options again. You don't need to run Microsoft Outlook, just
use Outlook Express for your e-mail as normal.

Hopefully that will fix the problem, if it doesn't then it could be
something more complicated.
