Can't open in Firefox, only IE 7.0

Guest

I have for a long time used this great forum for help and am at the same time
an avid user of Firefox. Now though using FF the page only partially loads.
It seems that with the new page layout only IE 7.0 works.

Is this done on purpose?

I contacted MS and they keep telling me it's not their problem!? If they
(MS) design a web page that only loads with a MS product who's problem is it
then?

I can't answer any questions about the web interface since neither I
(nor any of the other MVP regulars) use it since it is so awful. I do
find that some websites don't work well with Firefox and yes, that is
just bad website design. However, when it comes to these newsgroups
you'd be better off using a real newsreader instead of the clunky web
interface anyway. Here is information about that (and if you need to use
the web interface because you're at work or for other reasons, then I
guess you'll need to use IE):

Since you are using the web interface, you may not realize that this is
really a newsgroup. You will get far more out of this resource if you
learn to use a newsreader. There are many good newsreaders for Windows,
but you can use Outlook Express since you already have it. Here are some
links to information about newsgroups:

Works fine for me, using FF 1.0.7. I keep putting off switching to 2.0,
but will do so soon; if I have any problems with it, I'll report.

1) Uninstall Firefox (don't forget to backup your bookmarks)
2) Remove the Firefox stuff from within your profile and Program Files
(using Windows Explorer)
3) Install a fresh download of Firefox.

Should work fine after that.

I second Malke's recommendation. Don't use the awful web interface, use a
newsreader. She gave several links for how to set up Outlook Express for
newsgroup access.

This is not a forum, it's a newsgroup. You think it's a forum because you
are using the awful web interface to participate in it. That's the slowest,
clunkiest, most error-prone method there is. Do yourself a favor and switch
to a newsreader, such as Outlook Express, which comes with Windows. See

I can see I offended some one by calling this a forum as uppose to newsgroup.
sorry.
Tried the news reader, but it just doesn't seem user frienly to me.

I'm using FF v. 2.0.0 (the latest) - thought some one might know why the
incompatibility.

John - I'l try your suggestion, just don't know how to "Remove the Firefox
stuff from within your profile and Program Files (using Windows Explorer)"

Cheers

You didn't offend anyone. If you want to use the web interface, then
certainly do so. Most of us regulars would quit helping out in the MS
newsgroups if we were forced to use the web interface so we thought we
were helping you by showing you a "better" way. If it isn't better for
you, then that's just fine. It's all about choice. ;-)

Cheers back at you,

Malke

Probably. Microsoft hates open standards with a passion: Doesn't allow for
enough vendor lock-in.

In their narrow worldview, yours, for not using IE7. In the real world,
theirs, for not following the publicshed W3C standards.

No need to apologize. You didn't offend me, and I doubt very much that you
offended anyone else. I was simply trying to help you by explaining the
difference, and recommending a better choice.

Tried the news reader, but it just doesn't seem user frienly to me.

Your choice of course, but in my view, the only possible reason for that is
that you didn't truly understand how to use it, and didn't give it enough of
a trial. But it's clearly your choice, not mine, and I'll refrain from
trying to persuade you

The MSKB pages sometimes do the same thing. It's like the form at the
bottom of the page overlaps most of the article. I scroll to the bottom
of the page, then press F5 to refresh. That seems to fill in the page.
