What program is shown as associated with the .doc filetype? Do you have
that program installed?

What happens if you save the attachment to a file on the hard drive and
then double-click on that saved file?

Hi, thanks for you time.

For the past two years I have been able to open the attachement. Just until
yesterday i cant open the file. (Just a plain word document file.) I have
copied and paste to word document but nothing pastes. Just comes up as blank
page. And also done what you suggested with no luck. ( The same message
appears. !cannot save
document. Cant create file:)

Thanks again.

See what happens when you start Outlook in its safe mode ("outlook.exe
/safe").

And the version of Outlook you are using is what?

Good morning,

I'm using microsoft outlook 2003.
I will try running in safe mode and get back to you.

Thanks

Hi, I have tried to run in safe mode and still the same message
appears.

In Windows Explorer, under Tools -> Options -> Filetypes, what program
is associated with the DOC filetype (for the .doc file attached to your
e-mail)?

Are you using Word as the e-mail editor or to view RTF mails? If so,
what happens when you disable using Word in Outlook?

And to throw out another suggestion, try using the Help -> Repair menu
to see if Office will heal itself.

I'm also wondering that if you use Word as the e-mail editor or because
it is associated with the .doc file if the last path you used in which
to save a document in Word no longer exists then maybe Word is trying to
reuse that same last-used path. I'm not sure if Word will always
default to the user's "My Documents" folder but you could check your
permissions on your documents path under your userprofile (the default
location for "My Documents" unless you moved it). Run the following
command in a DOS shell:

perms <username> "%userprofile%\My Documents"

<username> is whatever is your login username. To understand the
output, run "perms /?" to see how to interpret the output. Or you could
use Explorer to right-click on that folder to use the GUI panel to
review the permissions on that folder.

Hi again,

Quick update.
I went to the source ( the original word document that was being sent to me
from head office). The document was saved as Current Listing Sheet (no full
stop)
I renamed the document Current Listing Sheet. ( with a full stop) Re-Sent to
my e-mail address and suprisingly enough it opened.

Thank you for all you help.

Okay, I'll bite. What is a "full stop"? A trailing period character in
the filename? The inclusion of an extension in the filename, like it
did not include the .doc extension?

Good morning,

Full stop. Meaning (.) So when admin was originally sending the attachment
it appeard as Current listing Sheet (*note there is no full stop after the
word sheet).
When renamed the attachement as Current listing Sheet. ( *note the full stop
after the word sheet) resent with the amended attachement it worked fine. A
trailing period character in the filename allowed me to open the attachement.

Honestly, dont understand!

Thanks
