I got Windows 2000 and Office Prem. 2000. Whenever I send
attached with Word is OK, but for excel, not only I can't
open it myself from send folder but also who receipt
either, and got error messaga as follow:
"1234,xls cannot be accessed. The file may be read-only,
or you may be trying to access a read-only location. Or,
the server the document is stored on may not be
responding."

The file was not read-only at all. When I copied it to
disk then they could open.

I'm using Netscape 7.1 e-mail program.

Thanks,

Joe

Try Tools>Options>General and uncheck "ignore other applications.

If this does not do the trick, re-register Excel.

Start>Run "excel.exe /unregserver"(no quotes)

Start>Run "excel.exe /regserver"(no quotes)

Note the space after .exe and before the slash(/)

Thank you very much for your advise. I tried
Tools>Options>General and checked that not to
uncheck "ignore other applications" under Excel program.
And I did re-register Excel as you advise. But I've til
got the same pro

Thank you very much for your advise and time. I checked
that uncheck "ignore other applications" under Excel
program, and re-register. But it won't fix the problem
yet.

Thanks again,
Joe

Just a guess:

Did you do the /unreg and /reg stuff with excel closed? And Netscape closed?

Another guess follows.

If you have access to a co-worker's(?) pc, can you check to see what Netscape
wants to do? (I think in some (early??) versions, it kept track of the helper
apps. It didn't rely on the windows registry for file associations.

In NS4.78, I can click on
Edit|Preferences|Category|Navigator|subcategory|Applications

Scroll down to Microsoft Excel worksheet
and edit/view the settings.

Maybe you can compare and contrast a pc that works with your settings.

If you save a workbook to a folder with spaces in its name and spaces in the
workbook's name, can you double click on it in windows explorer and have it open
correctly?

c:\my documents\excel\my test workbook.xls

Just as a test.
