I can't move many of my files out of my inbox or delete them. I get a
message interface error. It tells me ot close adn reopen outlook but that
does not hlep either. If I reinstall outlook what do I have to do to not
loose my contact and messages that are already there.

First, try a detect and repair from the help menu. If that doesn't work,
please provide the following information:

1) Version of Outlook
2) Email environment (Exchange, POP3, etc.)
3) Do you use a PST? If so, how big is it?
4) Any error messages and/or numbers?
5) Did you check your application event viewer for errors? If there are any
related to Outlook, what is the EventID and source?
6) What troubleshooting steps have you already taken so you're not advised
to do the same thing?

please provide the following information: I have done this but it does not correct the problem.

1) Version of Outlook XP2002
2) Email environment (Exchange, POP3, etc.) pop3
3) Do you use a PST? If so, how big is it? Yes and it is 400 MB
4) Any error messages and/or numbers?
Error message is "The message interface has
returned an unknown error. If the problem persists restatrt outlook." I
have done this but still ge tthe same message. This seems to be date
related. more recent emails can be moved or deleted only older one cannot be
moved or deleted. Tha is the olnly pattern that I can see.
5) Did you check your application event viewer for errors? If there are any

No, this is bot a send recieve error tha
woudl return and event message

I have done the detect adn repair. restart multiple
times. I have tried to compact the data file, I have tried to archive the
files but that also fails due to the inability to move the messages. I have
used the original dist to repair the files but that also did not work.

Any help you can offer would be appreciated.

That did not work either. It returns the same error. All files older that
1/19/06 seem to be in this "locked" mode. Even when I tried to rename or
copy the pst file it told me I could not do that as it was is use. When I
tiried to do that outlook was closed and nothing but windows explorer was
open.

Perhaps there is a process holding Outlook open. Check your task manager to
see if Outlook is running in the background. Also check for coms, add ins,
etc.

There is nothing related to outlook running. No coms or add ins under
processes that I can see either.

Ken, I went into the outlook log and found the following. The last lind is
folowed by the dame error at a different address hundreds of times? What is
a BBT or NBT file maybe that is where the problem is. This follwed the
statement of trying to run the repair inbox function.

!!Invalid node (nid=808E, bidData=F2AC4A, bidSub=F2AC6E, nidParent=0):
Data block (bid=F2AC4A) not found in BBT

**Attempting to validate BBT refcounts

??BBT entry (1328) has different refcount in RBT (4 vs 2)
