Can't Log On After Password Change

Our office has a Windows 2000 server running the most basic services; two
printers shared, a few files stored on the server. We've had some Win98
machines in the past few years that connect to this 2000 domain. When we
change the user acct password on the server, the 98 machine accepts the new
password and all is well.
About a year ago we installed a few Win XP Pro machines, connected to the
same domain and all was well. Recently we changed the XP users password on
the server but now the XP machine will not let us log on using that password.
We can still use the old password to get past the logon dialog box but we
don't have access to network resources. These XP users have Administrator
level accounts.
How can I get these users back on the network?

Did you change the password from the computer in question, or from
elsewhere?

It may be that the computer in question is not connecting fully to the
network, and thusly it allows the user to log on to the profile of that user
without logging on to the network.

If your default user profile is configured to do so, I would delete the user
profile of the current user and then have that user log in. The computer
then MUST use the network for log on verification. If it does not, find the
connectivity problem.

I have seen XP allow a user to log on when the computer is totally
disconnected from the network because there was a profile in the computer
for that user and password.
