can't launch PowerSchool online gradebook program

I am trying to open Pearson PowerSchool's online gradebook program. I have
no problem doing this when using Windows XP, but Vista will not launch the
program. I have downloaded Java 1.4.1 and Java 1.4.2 [because the error told
me I needed them to launch the program], but it is not working.

Dell [manufacturer of my laptop] tells me the problem is due to
incompatability with Vista. I really don't want to spend more $ to talk to a
Microsoft techie.

Any ideas?

You need to visit the Pearson support web site and
see what the system requirements are for the browser.
You problem is unrelated to Windows Vista but
related to your browser's requirements regarding any
plug-ins or ActiveX controls.
