Can't keep offline files synchronized

2 machines running XP Pro on a home network with a workgroup, not a domain.

Trying to use offline files on the laptop to sync to files on the desktop
machine. More often than not the laptop will not reconnect to the workgroup
when it boots. Sometimes disabling the network adapter and then re-enabling
it will get it to connect. Other times it won't and I have to "change" the
workgroup to get it to re-join. This happens over either a wired or wireless
connection. Even afte getting the machines to see each other, after some time
has passed (~30 minutes) the connection will go away. Laptop is on A/C with
no standby.

Any suggestions on making Workgroup networking connections more dependable?

My problem was actually described and solved by a post from Chuck to a
problem above titled "Too many networks?".

Turns out I have what Chuck describes as a classic NT Browser conflict
caused by my home Workgroup and wired and wireless XP machines competeing for
Master Browser status. Chuck's website provides a ton of invaluable info on
Domain and Workgroup networking, and so you should go to the other problem
thread to find the links to his website for further reading...
