Can't join Domain

Asad

Hi,

I have setup my network as follows:

Cable Modem -> Linksys BEFSR41 4 port router
BEFSR41 -> Server1 (DC), Server2, Wireless Router

BEFSR41 has ip address 192.168.1.1 and has DHCP on with range
192.168.1.100-119

Server1 is a domain controller and has ip address 192.168.1.50 and a FQDN of
ws01.foo.dyndns.org Also I didn't do any DHCP stuff on the domain controller
so its whatever is their by default after installation.

Server2 has ip address 192.168.1.60 and is called exchange01

Now, Server2 can ping 192.168.1.50 as well as "ws01". However it can not
ping "ws01.foo.dyndns.org" nor can it join the domain "foo.dyndns.org".

So I turned on the DNS on the Domain Controller (Server1), added
192.168.1.50 as Server2's primary DNS and moved 192.168.1.1 to its secondary
DNS server. After doing this I could ping ws01.foo.gotdns.org but not
foo.gotdns.org. As a result, I still can't join the domain.

What should I do?

Thanks.

Use the DC's IP address only for DNS on all domain members. Restart the
netlogon service, run ipconfig /flushdns and ipconfig /registerdns on the
DC.

Hi,

Thanks a lot. This worked great. Can you please explain why having the other
ip address in the DNS wasn't working?
