After dividing my harddrive into several partitions, I can't install Windows
XP Home anymore.
I inserted the XP Home cd, started my pc from disk, the system investigated
the hardware, the blue screen appeared with the message 'Windows installation
starts', end then is stopped/crashed.

200 Gb S ATA hard drive

Does anyone know what to do to get XP Home installed properly?

How did you partition your hard drive? Did you also format this
drive?

What do you mean when you say you "can't install Windows
anymore"? Were you able to install XP on this drive and now you
can't?

If this is a new hard drive and you're using an OEM version of
the XP CD it may not work.

Also, some SATA drives require you to hit the F6 key at the
begining of the installation and provide drivers on a floppy. You
may want to check with the manufacturer of your drive as well as
your motherboard. You may need drivers for the SATA controller.

Hello Nepatsfan,

Thanks for your reply. I partitioned the hard drive with fdisk, in 5 parts.
After that, I formatted all drives.
When I bought the pc, XP Home was installed. But after the partitioning it
won't be installed anymore. That´s what I meant.

I'm quite sure the XP version is an OEM. But how can it be it doesn't work
now, while it was properly installed when I bought the pc?

Am I supposed to see a notification of pushing the F6 key when the pc starts
up? Or just do it during the start up process?

Maybe it's got nothing to do with it, but the motherboard is an ASRock.

Thanks again,

Guan

When you first start the XP installation, you'll see notification
at the bottom of the screen to press F6 to install third party
drivers. See if you received a floppy disk with those drivers or
check the ASrock web site. You also might want to take a look at
this Microsoft article:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314859

You might want to check with the manufacturer of your PC and see
if there is any documentation outlining how to reinstall Windows.
If you didn't receive a manual with your computer then try their
web site.

Are there any error messages displayed when the installation
stops? Does it freeze or reboot? If it just freezes it could
indicate a problem with your CD-ROM or the CD itself.
