Can't install update it's looking for cryptographic service???

What is going on with this computer?? It has been acting very strange
lately. No viruses found. I did a repair with the CD and then proceeded to
update all of those 30 some files. Not a happy experience as I only get
26.4Kbps, it take days.

Today I finally get to the last update and it won't install from the windows
update site. It's on the machine but not being installed. So I go to the
update directly in support and download it to my machine and it won't
install either.
Error message says it can't verify the "update.inf" file, and something
about Cryptographic service. What gives, I don't want to do another
"repair"...Please help.
