heres a fairly basic problem but not sure how to proceed....
p133 running win 96plus [win954.00.950a]
recognises external modem but really need to get an internal working
i have installed this modem on plenty of systems before and never a problem... is usually picked up
at boot time, point the file browser at the correct folder and its done....with this machine the
modem is not picked up at boot and a manual install puts it on the modem list but it has to go in on
com2 and of course it doesnt work.....it normally creates com 3 for itself.....the irq listing is as
follows:
using checkit booted from dos
irq0 = timer
irq1=kboard
irq2=[cascade]
irq3=com2
irq4=com1
irq5=available
irq6=floppy
irq7=lpt1
irq8=clock/calendar
irq9=vga
irq10=available
irq11=available
irq12=available
irq13=00486FPU
irq14=hard disk
irq15=mscd001
there is an adaptec scsi controller [isa -bbrrrrr!] which is not showing on the list
could this be part of the problem ?? btw the controller is connected to a cd burner which seems to
work ok and is assigned in windows to irq10 [available in the dos listing]
any ideas or tips gratefully rec'd
thanks

Is thise one of the HCF/HSF modems? I think you have to install
drivers first, then the O/S will recognize it.
usually just listed as lucent win modem

I remember having trouble in Win 95 installing modems. I remember one
scenario that happened several times. I added the modem, then had to
manually detect new hardware, it would find com3, then I would have to
re-detect new hardware and it would find the modem on com3. I think this
was for older non-PnP modems.

Is your modem PnP or non-PnP. If it is not detected at boot, then I would
guess you have a non-PnP modem.

HCF modems sometimes need to have com2 disabled in the bios.
