Can't install HP software even as admin

I have Vista Home Premium installed and have an HP2820 AIO network connected.
The printer works fine but I want to install scanner software from the HP
installation disk.
Vista won't let the install happen: Message is "This software cannot be
installed using 'Run as...'. Solution is to logon as administrator and run
again.
I have admin on my user, I have added an ADMIN user, I have turned on
super-admin all without success. I have run the installation .exe as Admin
(right click - run as admin). No joy.
Tried to install all HP software (tho I hate the other crap you get) but
same error happens.

Right click the install.exe of this software. Under the Compatibility tab,
check the Run as WinXP Compatible.check box. Any further install.exe
programs, do the same and still, after the Compatibility check box, Run as
Admin.

Agony of Vista

I don't have the answer but I do have the same problem, except mine says that
I need to upgrade from Windows XP to Vista. Problem is I have Vista Home
Premium as well. I hope someone can help us out there. This window vista
has been a complete disaster, a sorry excuse for an "UPGRADE".

The Vista drivers are not on the CD, they're at the HP website.

Scroll right down to the bottom of this page and find the large download
called:
HP Color LaserJet 2820/2840 North America/Western Europe Full Software
Solution

Install that BEFORE connecting the AIO to the PC.

If you upgraded, the correct method is ALWAYS to disconnect peripherals
BEFORE the upgrade and then look for and install the new drivers BEFORE
reconnecting the device(s). You cannot blame Microsoft for you doing things
the wrong way round.

Agony of Vista

I did not upgrade to Vista it came on my new computer. So I am not sure what
you are saying. I was trying to install the scanning software. This just
one of many issues, I have issues with office 2003 it has some compatiablity
issues. I know there probably is answer, I just don't have the time to
figure it all out, Vista by far has been the most difficult transition, and I
have not met one person who has been happy with vista. So I am sure it is
more than just me. Not denying I may have been part of the problem, but not
all of the problem. MS does have issues whether they want to recognize it or
not, but what are the options, just got to fight through it?

What Cari is saying is that you have to install the correct drivers for your
HP device for the operating system you are using, which is Vista. As Cari
said, the drivers you need are not on the CD that came with the printer;
they are on HP's website. She even gave you the link to the drivers
download.

So yes, there is an answer and yes, in this case the problem is you. If you
don't have time to figure it out - and that's perfectly understandable
because I'm sure you have better things to do with your life - then have a
computer professional come on-site and set you up. This will not be someone
from BigComputerStore/GeekSquad. There is no shame in doing this; we all
have our areas of expertise.

An operating system is just a tool to get stuff done with. If you really
don't like Vista and/or it doesn't meet your needs, return the computer and
replace it with one running an operating system you like such as XP or even
a Mac.
