can't import key to the registy

Hi,
Earlier today I exported my entire registry which I want
to import now. When I try, it gives me an error message
that says,

Cannot import C:\DOCUME~\Owner\Desktop\regedit.reg: Not
all data was successfully written to the registry. Some
keys are open by the system or other processes.

How can I successfully import this? By the way I am
running windows XP.

Thanks

something very specific you need to do. Registry Cleaners,
are a "no, no", as XP handles the registry just fine.
System Restore will replace the registry in its entirety
to a point where you system was running fine, but I would
no more use it back to two weeks past at most.
Backing up your registry is basically a fruitless thing
to do, since changes are made just about everyday you do
something on your PC, like add a program, another file,
etc, hence, why you got the errors that you did. You can
get a good registry optimiser from here http://home.t-
online.de/home/lars.hederer/erunt/ and download the
NTREGOPT, which does a nice job at organising the registry
by defragging it and compacting the entries to where they
use the least space, making it more efficient, without
changing the registry entries.

Hmmmmm, I wonder. Might have to do a system restore, if it
works.

"The "Export registry" function in Regedit is USELESS (!)
to make a complete backup of the registry. Neither does it
export the whole registry (for example, no information
from the "SECURITY" hive is saved), nor can the exported
file be used later to replace the current registry with
the old one. Instead, if you re-import the file, it is
merged with the current registry, leaving you with an
absolute mess of old and new registry keys."
