I'm running WinXP Pro on an HP Pavilion zd7000 laptop. When I try to go
into hibernate, I get this message:

Insufficient system resources exists to complete API

Any ideas what that means?

Thanks,
Brett

Hi Brett,

It means too much other stuff is running. Hibernate requires shutting down
running processes, you need to run task manager (hit ctrl+shift+escape) and
look at what's going on. Try terminating excess programs/processes to
isolate the problematic one.

OK, thanks. I do have quiet a few applications going. Is there a maximum
number of applications that I can have open?

One convenience of hibernation is it saves your desktop. Meaning the
desktop's state - any applications you have open remain open once you come
out of hibernation. Did I misinterpret something?

Also, I have 1.5G of RAM and an 80GB hard drive. There should be plenty of
room for storing everything loading in memory.

Perhaps it does come down to one application causing the issue. I'll try to
figure out which one.

Brett

Hi Brett,

It's not a maximum, it's that one of them is interfering. If anyone of the
programs or the processes doesn't support the hibernate state, then the
whole thing won't work.

Hi Brett, I had the same problem on my Dell Inspiron 5100 running
WinXP Pro SP1. What seemed to work for me was to uninstall IPv6
Advanced Networking Pack for WinXP (or something named like that). Now
I don't get the annoying "Network Cable Unplugged" popup anymore too.

I suspect that my notebook's networking configuration was somehow
messed up and uninstalling the aforementioned update restored the
notebook's original networking files/settings. I also deleted all the
saved network connections in My Network Places (just to be safe).

BTW, do you have Virtual PC installed?

Regards,
Kevin

I have exactly the same problem for starters.
Next, power properties don't even display an option to
try to reenable hibernation. It is as if hibernation
never existed, just a figment of my imagination.

I think my Inspiron 8600C doesn't have IPv6 installed but I'll check.
BTW, do you have Virtual PC installed?

I do. WXP SP2 + VPC 2004 SP1. Does VPC disable the host from
hibernating?

The first two times that I tried posting, Microsoft said that posting failed
due to a Microsoft server error. I wonder if Microsoft will apologize for
the multiple posting.

When trying to post this quasi-apology, Internet Explorer says that
Microsoft's server has send invalid JavaScript. It just never ends eh?
