This is just a small problem but it's annoying me to no end. ;)

XP will not remember how I want to display icons in a certain folders.

Most of my stuff I display in detail view but some folders I want Icon
view. Well I have to change it every time I reboot because it always
reverts back to detail view.

I other words it keeps reverting back to it's old view after a reboot.
I HATE THAT ! ;-)

Thanks
BP

Right click Start, select Explore, click tools, folder
options, go to the view tab. About half way down the
Advanced Settings box is an entry entitled "Remember each
folder's view settings". Is that checked?

Yep

Possible fix:

(Fourth item down)

I say "possible" fix because it has never worked for me. This
solution involves increasing the number of folder settings that
Windows will remember. Based on my own experience,
I'm *guessing* that any existing Windows Explorer shortcut has
its own counters and is not retroactively affected by this change.

If you use Kelly's fix and it doesn't solve the problem, try creating
a new shortcut to Windows Explorer and then see if your changes
to folder views "stick".

Please post back to this thread with the results.

Hi Kelly.

Yes and no. When folder settings were not being remembered,
I created another shortcut to Explorer after the reg-fix didn't correct
things. I'm hoping the registry change will keep the settings, at least
longer than before.

I should say also that I haven't done any "scientific" testing to prove
anything. However, I did experience the same behavior on both
of my XP Home systems.

My procedure for setting folder view options is:
- Set root display at Details.
- Set all folders to this setting.
- Set individual folders as desired.

Of course, even though I would consider myself a "power user",
I certainly could have "fudged" things up somehow. I'm also at that
age where you start using that "senior moment" excuse. <g>

Thanks for asking, Kelly.

Thanks for the update, Dan. :o)
