Can't get online with Vista

Guest

My desktop running Vista is online and working well. My Tablet running Vista
is on the local network and will file share, ect.. But will not go online. I
can connect to wirless networks as well but not internet. I have comparied
the settings on both computers in the Network and Sharing Center. The working
desktop shows the computer/network/internet all woring. The Tablet shows the
tablet/network but has the internet greyed out with big red X between the
local network icon and internet icon. When I view status of Local are
connection the Desktop and Tablet are identical except the IPv4 Connectivity
on the working desktop is set to Internet and the nonworking Tablet IPv4 is
set to Local. I have tried everything with no good results.

The problem I am having is on the home network as well as at all wireless
hotspots I have tried. I can discover and connect to any network, but I am
blocked from going on the internet. I can compared all of the setting on the
WORKING desktop running vista to the NONWORKING tablet running vista and the
only configuration that appears to be different is IPv4 which is set to local
on the tablet and to internet on desktop.

Thank You
Ron

you are not getting an IPv4 address via DHCP which could explain the
issue. this is computer/NIC specific so one vista pc might work fine
while another has issues.

Well,

I am stuck. I have compared my vista desktop to my vista tablet in every way
I know with out luck. I even tried bypassing the router and plunging
directly into the cable modem with same results. Unless something comes along
I will have to reformat and go back to XP SP2.

I figured it out. The driver for the network card on my tablet needed a vista
driver update. As I could not get it on line it was showing the nework card
having the laters driver and functioning properly. As soon as I updated the
driver it would. But I did need to turn off firewall. Well the firewall is
now the issue, but at least I can get on line.

Thanks
