Can't get JSI faq 5450 working for WinXP SP2 - mandatory profiles

I read the JSI 5450 faq and am doing something wrong or not understanding
what my own goal is. I am running WinXPSP2 on the workstations and
Win2000server with all the patches.

I have set up a lab. In the lab, I want to make it so whenever user1, user2
etc log in on any machine, they get a default set up - classic start menu,
same icons on the desktop, same favorites, same icons in the task bar, same
wall paper.

I want them to able change these things but then them to go back to the
default the next time they log in so for example if they change the
wallpaper during a session it goes back to the standard one when they log
off and log back in.

In the 5450 JSI fax, in step 7 I can't do that on the workstations (no user
profiles tab) and that profile doesn'texist on the server, is there a step
I'm missing?

Thanks

Step 7. Control Panel / System / Advanced
Press Settings under Profiles

Since you have locally stored profiles, log off the template account and change
its NTUser.DAT to NTUser.MAN

Thanks for hanging in there with me. I've gone through steps 1-9.

I've tried setting the default security and permissions for the share for
everyone - I've also tried changing it so everyone has EVERYTHING.

I'm logged in on the workstation and server as the domain administrator with
full rights

Step 10 set permitted to use to everyone.

I get the message when I go to the share - \\lab-fileserver\Mandatory
already exists. The current contents of this directory or file will be
deleted during this operation. Are you sure you want to continue?

I say yes

Directory <\\lab-fileserver\Mandatory> could not be deleted - please delete
the directory and retry

I remove the share, I get
Failed to set security on the Destination Profile - Error the network name
cannot be found
I remove the directory - same issue.

Thanks for your help

I have the default profile working - THANKS!

I have a small issue with outlook but other than that - I'm good! I'll post
a new one with the outlook issue in the default I'm having.

Jerold,

If I may pick your brain a little further on this one. I
am doing something extremely similar. I have the
Mandatory profile working just great for my 1000+
students. The one thing I am looking to change it the
Faorites folder. It doesn't appear that I can redirect
this via GPO. Is there another method I can use. I have
their My Documents redirected to their server location and
that is where I want the favorites. Thus maintaining a
consistent desktop look but allowing them some freedom
with Internet bookmarks.

Thanks in advance,
Mike

Workstation.

Thanks - step 7 - what system the workstation or the server?
