can't get into certain websites---please help

two days ago I noticed I could not get into the Paypal
site. At first I thought the site was down, but then I
also noticed I couldn't access my online bank account
either. I can get to any website other than "secure" ones
it seems. When I try to go to Paypal, my bank account,
etc., I get "the page cannot be displayed". I tried
following the tips it has on the page but it doesn't
work. I looked under "about IE" and it says I have a
customized version of 6.0. Could this have anything to do
with the problem? Please help.
