Can't Get Internet Explorer Back on my Computer

I got hit with the Gaobot virus over the weekend. My first
sign of trouble was not being able to open the Internet
Explorer icon on my desktop, so I tried uninstalling IE,
intending to re-download. I then quickly realized my
computer had been infected with the virus, so I went
through the various processes of clearing it from my
system. I seem to have killed it off (hopefully!), but now
when I try re-downloading the newest version of Internet
Explorer from the Windows website, I get an error message
saying that there is already a newer version installed on
my computer. I can still get to the internet through my
sbcyahoo browser, but I want to get IE back (including
that familiar icon on my desktop!). Any ideas how to bring
this back?

Make sure your anti-virus is turned off.
