Can't get input mask value to display on dataview page

I was attempting to set up phone numbers in a Contacts Table using the input
mask lookup wizard. Everything seemed to go find; it recommended the
following values for the input mask: !(999) 000-0000 and I chose # as a
placeholder and went on to Finish. The input mask was then displayed as
follows: !(999) 000-0000;0;#

I then went to dataview, and under the Work Phone label it will NOT show the
input mask; it is as if nothing happened. I am using Office XP, a 2002
version of Access.

I would appreciate any help you might give me.

1. Is the table linked?
2. Did you get a warning message that changes could not be saved? (It will
still open and let you think you're making changes, but not save.)
3. Did you apply the Input Mask to the [Work Phone] field? (It's easy to
miss.)

Steve,

None of what you described is the case. The crazy thing about it, doing the
identical input masking for zip code and SSN worked just fine! I am VERY
frustrated about this; it's with ALL the input masking for all phone numbers!
