Can't format DVD-Ram

Guest

When I try to format my DVD-Ram I get the following error.

---------------------------
DVDForm
---------------------------
Cannot format this disc.
Quit any disc utilities or programs using files on the drive.
Then make sure that no window is displaying the contents of the drive and
try again.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

The ram drive is always busy as soon as I insert the ram disc.
I have updated the firmware but that did not help. I also disconnected all
other drives and that did not help either. I always get the above error.
There are no other utilties or programs accessing the ram drive.
I even tried in safe mode but no help.

Windows does not support DVD-RAM natively. You'll have to ask the author of whatever software you're using to record to DVD-RAM.

It seems to work now but when I insert a ram disc it keeps running as if
searching the disk. When I disabled unsecapp.exe in task manager I am able
to format the disc but not burn as I need software that will burn to a Ram
disc. The software that came with the ram drive does not do this.

This file "unsecapp.exe" should only be in the C:\WINDOWS\system32\wbem
folder, if it is in any other location(s) it may be Malware..
What is the make & model of the drive and the software you are trying to
use..?
What format option are you using..?

The file "unsecapp.exe" is in C:\WINDOWS\system32\wbem.
The DVD-Ram drive is a LG GSA-4081B with A104 firmware.
The software that came with the drive is B's Recorder GOLD Basic v7.35.
I was able to format using UDF 1.5 for data recording after disableing
unsecapp.exe.
If I do not disable unsecapp.exe the drive runs until I disable unsecapp.exe
or remove the disc or shutdown my computer. I know this cause I left it
running thinking it will end but kept running for 2 days.

Thanks Jaymon but your link is a little beyond my pc terminology but I will
try to make sense of it.
I believe I have narrowed the problem down to finding software that will
support DVD-RAM. I have been told that NERO 7 ULTRA works well but have not
tried it yet.
Do you have any suggestions as to what software works with DVD-RAM?

A DVD-RAM, with an appropriate driver that is included with the retail
version of the DVD-RAM drive, functions like a giant floppy. You can
write and delete files using Windows Explorer. It functions exactly
like a DVD-RW or DVD+RW drive along with a InCD or DLA UDF driver.

Nero does seem to work. It formated and burned to the ram disc, and allowed
for future burnings or adding data.

I connected an old GMA-4020B DVD-RAM drive in a computer and installed
Windows XP with SP2. I disabled CD recording to the drive (properties,
recording tab) and right clicked on the drive and formatted the
DVD-RAM disk (FAT32). I was then able to drag files to the DVD-RAM
drive, and the files were stored on the disk. This happened without
installing any driver or burning program.

Unfortunately I was not able to do that. Perhaps your DVD-Ram is supported by
Windows XP. I know mine is not, at least according to a list I have seen.
I have a GSA - 4081B, it will not do that or burn anything without the driver.
