Can't find Winupdate message on bootup.

Hi all,
I have been working with my friend over the phone trying to get her machine
(AMD K6-2 box running Win 2000) after a nasty virus. She installed NAV and
got rid of it and we have most everything back to working with the exception
of a "can't find Winupdate" error message on boot-up. I sent her a copy of
msconfig which shows that there is a winupdate trying to run on startup. I
have disabled that but the problem persists. Other than being annoying it
doesn't seem to be doing any harm. Windows Update is working fine as is
everything else. However it would be good to get rid of this error message.
Any suggestions?
Thx
Gary

Hi Algae

There is no such Windows File as Winupdate.exe - it is a Virus. More info
here:

http://www.vsantivirus.com/warpigs-b.htm

Update your virus definitions regularly if that virus hadn't been found.

Scan you system for free here:

There is no such file called winupdate.exe in Windows 2000. It's just this
Virus that is called winupdate.exe. You will not have to replace that file.
In order to stop this window at startup make sure that a shortcut to that
file isn't in your Startup Folder.
If you cannot find it here, then download this tool to manager your Startup
Options (and remove that shortcut):

"StartupCPL" : http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml (Freeware, <100 KB)

Hope this helps. Regards,

Fabio
